Sciencey Stuff Yup, if a new machine is about to do sciencey stuff for the first time it's best to be standing a very nice distance away. Generally I'd say minimum safe distance is at least twenty times the size of the machine itself, more if it includes possibly volatile chemicals.

epicenter sometimes the effects are worse at long distances and nothing at the epicenter where it starts
